Coachella 2021! I was touched by all the fans who knew

as an idol. The members and I watched the rest of the
concert in the crowd and we had a lot of fun. Too bad we
had to go back to Korea the next day.

early childhood:
as the first daughter of a teen mom and teen dad,
minji’s parents found great difficulty in raising their
daughter. they couldn’t handle the crying, the questions,
the demands—everything minji did was normal of a child
her age, but they were not ready for that yet. she was
unwanted, and for a time, they contemplated on putting her
up for adoption. it was then that her father’s parents,
who had been living in south korea offered to raise their
granddaughter.
at six years old, minji found herself on a plane, flying
from philadelphia to the closest airport to boseong-gun
alone. after that, her and her grandparents lost contact
with her parents. perhaps it was to run away from the
responsibility that was supposed to return to them in a
few years.
life in boseong-gun:
minji enjoyed the countryside, it was more peaceful than the
city, or at least what she remembered the city to be like. it
was nice to finally get attention from an older figure. her
grandparents were green tea farmers, and she would often help
out by accompanying them and the other workers to the field,
where she would pick tea leaves and sing to them until she had
to go to school or the sun has set.
she became known as bongsan’s songbird, and many of the workers,
and people from neighboring towns came to listen to her sing.
the same sentiment was not shared by the town’s children.
they found her annoying. she was the new girl. the american.
rumors about her thinking that she is better than everyone
else because she could sing and speak english spread.
it was difficult for her to make friends.
she stayed home most of the time.
new beginnings:
during a rare field trip to seoul, minji discovered pm ent. and
the 2011 global online audition. with her grandparents’ nearly
obsolete computer and webcam, she submitted a video of her
singing and placed first in the several thousand submissions.
a few months later, she was signed as a trainee and living in
seoul. to say she was homesick was an understatement. it took
daily calls to home from her grandparents to keep her from
moving back.
through intense training and hard work, she was able to debut
in 2014 with co-ed group 4SEASONS, but this was not without
sacrifices. by the time she was 19, she had developed intense
dysmorphia, a horrible smoking habit, and her patience had run
thin. gone was the sweet girl from bongsan-ri. she did
everything she could to debut.
she was 4SEASONS’s minji, not bongsan’s songbird.
idol life:
minji was initially associated with a fresh, cute concept due to
her representative season being summer, but her peak came when
she adopted a princess image two years later.
on camera and stage, she was 4SEASONS’ capable leader, but off
she struggled being away from home, not feeling good enough,
and her relationships with her members. to add onto her stress,
an odd blog came to her attention in 2017, titled “minji’s room”
which noted her daily, personal life in unnerving detail. it
was not long until she started feeling a presence watching her
at all times. it followed her everywhere she went, even overseas.
all her managers, the ceo, the staff members—they called her
crazy and attention-seeking. she pacified herself, dealing with
the anxiety in silence.
she feared that if she visited her grandparents at home that
this entity would find out where they live and torment them too.
since the creation of this website, she has been unable to see
her grandparents in person.

routine, and it sent her deeper into madness as time went on.
she found comfort in the form of a male companion, but that was
cut short when “minji’s room” posted about it, and people started
reposting the proof of their dates all over sns. later that day,
she felt that presence again following her home. impusively,
minji decided to turn around and chase the dark figure, but
she gave up on that plan as she realized it had been brandishing
a knife the entire time. this stalker wanted to kill her.
she narrowly escaped the figure’s attempts.
in the morning, she was woken up by her manager, frantic about
the news. finally, she thought, it is about time that caught
that creep. but it wasn’t that, no, the headlines reported her
dating scandal.
she couldn’t believe it. they cared that she had a boyfriend,
but did not bat an eye at the existence of her stalker? that
was the last straw for her.
leaving.
in 2021, she decided to leave her group with great persuasion
to pm ent’s ceo right before discussions of renewing their
seven-year contract to pursue an acting career. a group of
anti-fans, who used to be minji's superfans, regard her to be
the reason behind four seasons' decision not to renew their
contracts and actively spread the word to push for a comeback
(without her) and enact revenge on minji by ruining her new
career, even if it is impossible to bring the group back.
her acting debut was in a thriller movie, the devil may cry.
she served as the cunning main antagonist. it was tremendously
popular and won a few awards. she continues to play similar
roles, and soon, her princess image was overtaken by her bad
girl, femme fatale notoriety.
